Malaysian and Singaporean students against
the Internal Security Act and University
College Act (1971) which prohibited people
and students to practice their democratic
rights but to intimidate and detained with
out trail. Under this act the government
expelled students from the schools and did
mass arrest. These both acts are still active.
In
Philippines the Filipino students' movement
was very strong since the First Quarter
Storm (FQS) 1970. The students were the
first victims of the imposition of Martial
Law 1972 and the students were the major
force to down the dictator Marcus and to
void the martial law in the Philippines
in 1986.
The
Korean students are lunching underground
activities. The presence of US military
base and Japanese support against the DPRK
had encouraged to the Koran government to
oppress reunification and democratic movement.
All the records of human right violation
were beat by the Kwangju massacre where
more than 3000 civilian were killed at once
in 1980 and martial law was imposed. Students
unions are still band, student activists
are warranted. The Korean government repeated
the history by arresting more than 1800
students from one university in 1996.
The
repressed students' movement in Indonesia
regain and revealed their strength once
again in 1998 that was enough to quit the
Suharto regime.
The
Thai students commemorated its 10 of peoples'
uprising. More than 30,000 students and
people were arrested in October 14, 1973
coup in Thailand on the name of communist'
who were fighting against the military rule.
Thai students movement was geared up once
again in the beginning 90s and they are
continue in the struggle for genuine democracy.
Students in Bangladesh and Pakistan were
victims of Military rule for time to time.
The people's movement in Bangladesh1990
has restored the multi-party system in Bangladesh
while Pakistani Students are fighting once
again the military coup of 1999.
After
the 30 years of continue struggle against
autocratic Panchayat regime and absolute
monarchy Nepalese students have got a victory
over the monarchy and autocratic Panchayat
in 1990 and the history has proved the students
were the first to protest the Rana regime
as well. The Burmese students are
continue in struggle against the military
junta since 1988. All the Universities and
schools are closed. Students are in jungle
or in exile. The struggle for self determination
of East Timorese people has successfully
landed after 25 years of struggle in 1999.
They lost almost one third of their population
for their land and freedom. Palestinian,
Syrian and Lebananian people are fighting
for their land occupied by Israel. It is
to say the general character of the students
is always act as watchdog of the government
or political parties and leaders and react
immediately. Thus, though the students force
are not the decisive force but always in
forefront of the people's struggle. Their
struggle for genuine democracy and freedom
is continue.
