Democratic
forces and most dynamic and potential
force of the democratic movement; youth
and students sectors in the region have
always and still under attack directly
or indirectly. The attack on these forces
is to repress their strong voices against
direct or indirect foreign intervention
and ruling elite causing several ills
in the country for civil liberties and
justices.
After
the Second World War the independence movement
and national liberation movement in the
Asian region were quite strong. The imperialist
forces were quitted one after another from
the region. Several countries like China,
Korea, Laos, Vietnam, Mongolia had achieved
their liberation and other several were
on the road of revolution. It was great
threat and challenge to both supper powers
United States of America and Soviet Union.
The
Asian region has been an important arena
for the super powers' contention in terms
of resources and market which links the
oil rich middle east and south east Asia
and fertile market south Asia. Thus, both
United States of America (USA) and former
United States of Soviet Russia (USSR) had
intensified their efforts to dominate the
politics in the region. USA had felt more
secure in the South East Asia while there
were already US military bases in Philippines
and South Korea and of course Thailand was
its puppet. The Vietnamese had to fight long,
bitter and costly war against the US and
French and still have to pay the cost of
that and people have been suffering though
they finally won over the imperialist attack
and reunified the Vietnam in 1976. It is
still important to remember Ho Chi Minh's
words "nothing is more precious
then freedom and independence".
The Arab region never has been unfettered.
It is always under attack either directly
by the imperialist super power like in gulf
in 1991 and attack over Iraq now or through
their elite in their support like invasion
and occupation of Palestinian land (1948,
67) and Arab territories by Zionist Israel
with support of US. Both super powers attempted
over south Asian countries to topple their
sovereignty. USSR was one step ahead in
Afghanistan for coup and setting up the
government closely connected with USSR in
1976. Now it is under control of USA.
In
all these war, intervention, aggression
and coup; the peoples were the most suffers.
Hundreds of thousands of them had to scarified
their lives in Vietnam, Afghanistan, Arab,
millions were forced to be refuges form
those countries and hundreds of thousands
women and children were forced to involve
in prostitution in Philippines, Korea and
Thailand. The people had witnesses all these
civil inliberties and injustice and had
supported and joined with their movement
for self determination and self reliance.
In
other hand, the undemocratic political system
and dictatorship of cruel local ruling elite
equally repressed democratic movement of
the countries in the region.
Considering
with great concern the rampant situation
of political repression in many Asian countries
the Asian students affirmed their political
stand and involvement to people's struggle
and involved in the mass movement.
